However, it is enjoyable in that this is a tremendous exercise in color mixing and establishing the relationships between light and shadow. Another very interesting aspect is that only as I get into the details of a specific small area in the painting do I begin to grasp the nuances that establish the spacial relationships, I.e. which building is in from of the other, if the light is coming from behind or in front of another building, and sometimes beginning to understand what the color shape actually is!!!
Looking forward, there are many refinements to be made in the Empire State Building and the other structures, there are interesting billboards to be painted which advertise cars, plays, etc. (wait to see the surprises!). However, one future item that will have a major impact on the whole painting and help to set the mood has yet to be even indicated! That is, a beautiful cloud bank will hover just over the lower buildings. This will serve to accentuate the height of the Empire State Building soaring above the clouds!
