Introduction to the Use of Golden OPEN Acrylics
My early use of traditional acrylic paints was interesting. However, as I progressed to try to emulate the more delicate oil painting effects, the fast drying time of the paint became very frustrating. I tried all sorts of retarders, sprays, and products that claimed to have slow drying times, all of which proved unsatisfactory.
Finally the Golden Paint Company from New York state, introduced their new line of OPEN Acrylic paints. I found them to have wonderful properties that met all of my needs. They dry slowly enough to allow for blending, yet if painted thinly they dry fast enough to allow for delicate layering. If kept in a sealable container a pallet of OPEN acrylics will stay workable for weeks to months, allowing the same mixtures of paint to be reused and modified throughout the development period of a complex painting.
The key methodologies that I have developed and find very useful are documented on my website and can be accessed by clicking on the the various Buttons on the My Painting Methodology page. Again these techniques are based on my own experiments, talking to the very helpful Golden support team, and utilizing the great information on the Golden website, www.goldenpaints.com.
